10 Best Things to Do in the Cowichan Valley
We’re almost tempted not to divulge this place and keep it all to ourselves. Genoa Bay is one of those rare spots on the planet where you get the sensation that you’ve just discovered your own secret place…
In Cowichan Valley, life is bountiful
One of the finest places to dine in the Cowichan Valley is Genoa Bay Cafe, where the scenery matches the cuisine. Overlooking the marina at its namesake bay, the cafe features seafood sourced from the waters surrounding Vancouver Island as well as vegetables from the farms of Cowichan Valley…
The 3-Bay Weekend
Our first shore duty upon arriving at Genoa Bay is to make reservations for the evening meal at the rustic café hanging on the rocks above the marina. The Genoa Bay Café has changed hands since our last visit. Chef Dave Cartner’s menu features northwest fare and local organic produce…

Mother’s Day? Try their brunch at the Genoa Bay Café. A great chef, here, and worth the few minutes drive from Maple Bay to Genoa Bay, on Southern Vancouver Island. Right at seaside, with the docks and boats to entice you, this gem is open for lunch and dinner — reservations recommended. It’s now a “discovered secret”. Enjoy!
Genoa bay cafe feature
This delightful piece of paradise tucked into a natural harbour on the northeastern shore of Cowichan Bay is the “kind of place sailors, wooden boaters, romantics and intelligent sentimentalists hold close to their hearts,” wrote noted European travel writer and sailor Ferenc Máté.
Genoa Bay Marina has a full range of facilities for sailors including a marina store and “office on the go” business and internet services. Bonus: The Genoa Bay Café, frequently cited as one of the better (and certainly most charming) restaurants in the Cowichan Valley. Known for its clam chowder, fish and chips, seafood dishes, and dessert menu.
COWICHAN: A FOODIE PARADISE
Nestled between Maple Bay and Cowichan Bay sits the beautiful, sheltered Genoa Bay. Up the ramp from the marina sits the Genoa Bay Cafe. The seafood is fresh and expertly prepared, from their Salt Spring Mussels to their Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl there’s a delectable dish for everyone. Ask about their house-made hot sauces.

A lovely location to enjoy PNW seafood and locally sourced foods, right on the Genoa Bay Marina, Vancouver Island (about 1hr drive from Victoria BC). Sit on the cafe deck or inside with the locals and with the visitors who stop by on their boats to enjoy the friendly service and have a delicious meal. The history of the site included in the menu is a good read as you settle in…

A really nice little restaurant in Genoa Bay that is right on the water at the Marina. Really nice outdoor patio to sit out on a summer evening and watch the boats. The food there is excellent.
